DIY: How to Clean your Window Aircon Amidst of Enhanced Community Quarantine

How to Clean your Window Aircon Amidst Quarantine

Hi guys! How are we doing right now? I hope and pray everyone's in good condition while we are in enhanced quarantine. I will not write something about Covid but some helpful tips I found that you can do while you are staying at home.
I just felt summer is coming now and the ambient temperature started to increase. Based on PAG-ASA as of April 11, 2020 2:55PM ambient is 32.6C.

Amidst of ECQ I found helpful tips courtesy by Concepcion-Carrier. This was been provided as we know service technicians won't be able to attend our needs.

But once the quarantine has been lifted, we encourage to book a cleaning service for them to provide with a more thorough cleaning of our air-conditioning unit.
Before we start..

WHAT ARE THE THINGS NEEDED

  1. Vacuum cleaner
  2. Medium sized basin, a pale or bucket to hold water.
  3. Soft cloth

SAFETY FIRST. Always switch OFF the unit and remove the plug from the power outlet.

STEP 1
Remove the front grille by pressing the side of metal casing gently. Do this is also in the other side and hold the front grille with hands

STEP 2
Gently remove front grille from the casing. Be sure hinge connections at the top are remove.
For the top vent unit, screw at both side must be remove prior.

There is probably question as some point air filter can be removed instantly by sliding it out from the front grille. But in this instruction whole front grille is to be removed.

STEP 3
Gently remove the wire connection from grille to control box. This applicable for remote controlled aircon.

STEP 4
Pull the air filter out from the  grille.

STEP 5
Remove the special filter, shake off the dust then set aside. It is not recommended to clean it by water as may affect its effectiveness.

Special filter like the 8-in-1 of Carrier such as Zeolite, Sasa, Vitamins C, Bio-Enzyme, Ginko Extract, Electrostatic, Activated Carbon and Anti-Mold.

STEP 6
Soak the main filter in the basin of water for 5 to 10 minutes

STEP 7
Shake the main filter lightly to remove the excess water.

STEP 8
Place it on the top of a dry cloth and allow it to dry.

STEP 9
Clean the fins with a vacuum cleaner.  Be careful not to touch the fins.  In the absence of vacuum cleaner please skip this step.

STEP 10
Clean the front grille with soft dry cloth. No chemical application needed.

STEP 11
Put the special filter in each slot once the air filter is dry.

STEP 12
And insert the air filter back to the front grille.

STEP 13
And plug gently the plastic connector. This is for remote control unit only.

STEP 14
Return and attach the front grille back on to the unit.

STEP 15
Plug the unit back on to the power outlet.

 CONCLUSION

There you go guys a simple Do-It-Yourself procedure provided by one of the leading brand on how you can clean your air-conditioning unit in the absence of service provider. But make sure you call for a service as soon as the enhanced community quarantine lifted off.
Some steps may not applicable on your aircon unit as brand may differ in some ways. However the objective is to clean the air filter and fins. Thank you.
